Our Summer Exploring the States

In my nearly 40 years of life, I had only seen maybe 4 states of the United States. That includes the one in which I was raised. My husband and I decided we wanted to go see some of the sights that the States had to offer. We are on a fairly tight budget this year. We wanted mobility with the added convenience of staying in inexpensive accommodations. We decided to be slightly adventurous and looked into campervan hire. We decided to do it and have not regretted it since. It was much more affordable than a month of hotel rooms would have been. It was also a lot of fun! We got to really explore and stay in more natural settings. We don’t mind the city, but definitely prefer a more rural setting. We could also stay in the city at various RV parking sites. The price of one week at one of those sites equaled one day at a hotel! That was an incredible savings to us. We really enjoyed our tour of the States.

Despite its name, KORUS is not the hot new hybrid car being made in Detroit. It is, however, the most recently ratified trade agreement between South Korea and the United States and it is being hailed as a great deal by car industry groups and manufacturers everywhere. The September passing of KORUS, the United States – South Korea Free Trade Agreement, has been in the works since 2007.

The specifics of the agreement include South Korea immediately cutting it tariffs on U.S. imports in half and fully eliminating them in five years. Meanwhile the U.S. will fully eliminate its current 2.5 percent tariff on Korean cars and its 25 percent tariff on Korean trucks in the next 10 years.

KORUS is expected to increase the sales of U.S. made automobiles in South Korea and have a positive long term impact for Ford, Chrysler and GM. It should also have a positive influence on the economy as it is expected to create $10 billion in our gross domestic product and another $10 billion in annual in cars for sale South Korea. Similiar deals with Panama and Columbia are in the works as well.

I should have known better when I was driving down the road the other day. I was following a large truck that was hauling dirt and rocks when a small rock fell off it. It was probably more the size of a pebble than a rock but when it hit my windshield, it definitely had the power of a rock.
